uninteresting on their own, but as a collection these photos become brilliant.
there are hundreds of categories you can view, each showing pictures of different people in the same situation, or in this case.. wearing a green jumper.

very simple yet inventive.

DEREK BACON

this image, which on his website is called 'the horse and the cow from the dog heads', is an example of how Bacon combines illustration with photography and collage. the effect being a confusing jumble of reality and imagination. his images are always strange, but done in a photographic style, making them seem like a record of a moment which actually happened. i don't normally like clean and perfect pictures which are heavily manipulated, but Bacon has a very innovative and unique style, and his subject matter is always entertaining.

he focuses on the forms found in nature, and photographs them in a very minimalist style. each photograph is almost black and white. the simplicity of his images is what appeals to me, they all make you look at the object in a totally new way.

INSTANT PLASTIC SURGERY

this clever design devised for a Toronto plastic surgery company takes advantage of the simple coffee cup. i wonder if it would be effective, as you would have to look at somebody else to realise the design, not actually changing your face at all, which surely would be the point of having plastic surgery. still, engaging design on an otherwise mundane and taken for granted object.

ARIANA PAGE RUSSELL

"I have dermatographia, a condition in which one’s immune system exhibits hypersensitivity, via skin, that releases excessive amounts of histamine, causing capillaries to dilate and welts to appear (lasting about thirty minutes) when the skin’s surface is lightly scratched. This allows me to painlessly draw patterns and words on my skin, which I then photograph."

this is amazing, it looks like it should be quite painful, but her words suggest that it isn't. i don't know what it is about Russell's art which intrigues me. i think it is probably that she has taken a skin condition, which would normally cause sufferers to become insular, and used it to her advantage. she photographs her patterned skin as the effect is only temporary, so the picture then acts as a record of her work. i think to deal with having a condition such as this, see the good in it, except it enough to be able to share it with others, and to see its potential for making something beautiful takes a very strong creative mind.

SLINKACHU

..is famed for taking situations we are all so used seeing in the city and shrinking them down to a tiny scale. he then cleverly forces the same situations and problems on to everything which falls into that tiny scale. he has a new blog entitled ‘Inner City Snail’. its a reminder of the smaller creatures we pass by, and how they use the space for different purposes.

this one, entitled 'rush hour', subtly creates humor from an otherwise dull daily problem. it cleverly suggests that our problems are minor, using a creature we associate with being slow and small.
